RESEARCH AND RESOURCES

The CCHS archives are housed in the cottage located south of the Monon Depot Museum. The collections include hundreds of vertical files about Carmel history and residents, oral histories, textiles, maps, photographs, and manuscripts. All researchers should follow archive rules, which are made with the preservation of our collections in mind.

Patrons should use pencils only.

The archive collections are open to the public, but collections do not circulate.

Patrons can bring laptop computers into the archives.

Food and Beverages are not allowed near the collections.

Former Exhibits for Loan

Northern Beach:

This small exhibit includes photographs of Northern Beach, which was at one time the only park in Carmel, as well as reminisces from local residents of time they spent there as children. It will fill one small case.

Cost: Free.

Painter with a Pen: Franklin Booth

This exhibit tells about the life and work of nationally known artist Franklin Booth. Booth had a unique pen-and-ink style that appeared in magazines and newspapers all over the country at the turn of the century. He was also close friends with James Whitcomb Riley and Theodore Dreiser, both of whom visited Booth at his home on Range Line Rd. in Carmel.

Exhibit size can vary, depending on how much space is available. The exhibit will fill up to two cases.
